What is ShrinkLocker?

ShrinkLocker is a new ransomware that targets the Microsoft BitLocker encryption feature. This malware renders systems unusable by encrypting local drives and removing recovery options.

How Does ShrinkLocker Work?

ShrinkLocker accesses systems through unpatched vulnerabilities, stolen credentials, or phishing attacks. Once it enters the system, it uses Windows Management Instrumentation to collect information about the operating system. If the conditions are met, it resizes the partitions, creates new primary partitions, and enables BitLocker encryption. It then deletes itself, leaving the victim with no option to recover.
